Dinant is a Walloon city and municipality located on the River Meuse, in the Belgian province of Namur. It lies 90 kilometres southwest of Brussels and is situated 20 kilometres north of the border with France. Known for its famous citadel, Dinant is also the birthplace of Adolphe Sax, a Belgian inventor and musician who created the saxophone in the early 1840s, patenting it in 1846. He also invented the saxotromba, saxhorn and saxtuba. Today you can find remnants of the vibrant saxophone culture all around in Dinant.
